White Elk's "Visions in Glass"

White Elk's “Visions in Glass“

"High up in the Colorado mountains, deep in the woods is a studio on fire..."

Visiting White Elk's web site  is an experience of beauty and imagination.  An internationally recognized glass artist, White Elk offers hand blown glass ornaments & witch balls.

Colorado glass artist, White Elk, and his family have lived in a remote area in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains for over twenty years. His exquisite blown glass art is created in a unique mountain studio he custom built adjacent to his home.  His inspiration for his blown glass is taken from his state of "awe" and amazement at the wonders of life. His art is a consequence of this veneration.

White Elk  has been a dedicated glass artist since 1993. His fascination with water, how it moves and how light passes through it led to his interest in the medium of blown glass. He has studied extensively the properties of light and water combinations, as they relate to the rainbows, chakras, and to various healing and art forms. Learn more.

Artful Home's Murrini Sphere 08

Artful Home's Murrini Sphere 08

The intricately detailed “Murrini Sphere 08” is one of 18 new exclusives in the Artful Home’s 2008 Ornament Collection. Blown by husband/wife art team Ralph Mossman and Mary Mullaney, “Murrini Sphere 08” features ornate murrini glass patterns, including the year 2008, embedded in a crystal blown-glass sphere. Only 400 of the ornaments will be made for the 2008 holiday season.

Mossman and Mullaney have been creating “Murrini Sphere” ornaments since the 1980s and began embedding the year into them in 1995. In recent years, they have begun adding themes, such as this year’s “good luck” theme (featuring lucky symbols such as four-leaf clovers and shooting stars), into the “Murrini Spheres” as well.

Murrini are small wafers of glass bearing colored patterns that are formed by bundling and fusing colored glass rods together, then pulling the hot glass to a very small diameter and slicing it.

“The ideas for the murrinis come from Ralph’s playful side,” Mullaney said. “But, he also has a very technical side. Murrinis are very intricate things. They’re almost mathematical, so he has to be able to visualize how they’re going to work.”

You can find the “Murrini Sphere 08” and 26 other exclusives among the 108 artist-made ornaments in the Artful Home' 2008 collection at Artful Home.  Learn more.

da Polonia Ornaments

da Polonia Ornaments

The glass Christmas ornaments of da Polonia are handcrafted by Mia in her studio in Krakow, Poland, and are warehoused in the USA.  She creates balls/ round glass Christmas ornaments, molded/figural glass Christmas ornaments and free blown or free form glass Christmas ornaments.  Designed and crafted with the utmost attention to quality, the ornaments have been hailed repeatedly as miniature works of art.

Since starting her studio, Mia has received many honors including an invitation from John Paul II to decorate his tree at the Apostolic Palace at the Vatican in Rome, a two month solo exhibit at the Museum of Gdansk, and a documentary about Mia and her studio shot by the Krakow Television and aired worldwide on the Polonia Network. Caring for Glass Ornaments

These suggested tips for cleaning your unique hand blown and hand painted ornaments were found in The Looking Glass newsletter.

"Do not put your glassware in the dishwasher. Hand wash in warm soapy water. This will keep your glassware looking great for years to come.

No, you cannot put your glassware in the microwave. Dry with a soft cloth so as to not scratch. Handle the body of your glassware, not the stem when cleaning.

If stains appear on your glassware, gently rub with half a lemon, wash with vinegar, or soak the interior with powdered dentifrice dissolved in lukewarm water. In areas with very hard water & high mineral content, distilled water will help prevent staining.

To avoid scratching, dust with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened in a mild solution of 1-part ammonia to 2-parts water.

Do not expose to rapid temperature changes or extremes of temperature. Avoid placing in direct sunlight.

Avoid packing glassware in newspaper or other moisture-absorbing materials for long periods of time; soft cloth or bubble wrap is perferable.

Remember to sit back and enjoy your handblown ornaments."
